From a powerful national anthem to church hymns and classical masterpieces, music has always been able to evoke emotion, affect your mood, and influence the brain and body. Scientific studies throughout the years have proven how beneficial music can be both emotionally and physically. However certain types of music are better suited for healing than others. For example, you may find that while you truly enjoy rock music, this music may not be the most ideal music for your own emotional or physical needs.

Generally speaking, you want to search for music which is soft, soothing, and geared toward relaxation or meditation. Many classical music recordings have these qualities as do New Age compositions. You can even acquire music which is specially geared toward meditation, yoga, and other wellness programs. I highly recommend the music of Daniel Kobialka for all of your wellness and meditation needs. Mr. Kobialka’s focus is the rejuvenative power of music. He has led didactic and interactive workshops and seminars, traveled the world bringing his violin virtuosity to hospitals from Beijing, China to Plainville Ohio, and recorded music for meditation and guidance with alternative healing pioneers including Joan Boreysenko and Bernie Siegel. “If you are seeking healing, inspiration or spiritual fulfillment, you will discover in Kobialka the transformative power of music,” Larry Dossey, M.D.

Music has always been loved and embraced by the public, from catchy jingles that influence their purchases to cherished childhood songs that bring back a nostalgia for friendlier times. As such, it is no surprise that science, as well as medicine, have turned their attention to the therapeutic powers of music.

“Music, the undefined sounds of universal language,” says Daniel Kobialka, “has the remarkable ability of speaking to each of us in a very personal and profound manner.”

The many uses of music in therapeutic situations vary largely and may include, but are not limited to, motor skills, social/interpersonal development, cognitive development, self-awareness, and spiritual enhancement.

The idea of music as a tool for healing dates back to the beginnings of history, and some of the earliest notable mentions in Western history are found in the writings of ancient Greek philosophers.

Robert Burton wrote in the 16th century in his classic work, The Anatomy of Melancholy, that music and dance were critical in treating mental illness, especially melancholia (depression).

Using music and sound for healing is not yet a mainstream practice, however many groups have already begun to implement music therapy to their advantage. For example, some schools have initiated programs including music to benefit their student’s learning abilities. They have begun to hire therapists or other specialists who use music to strengthen nonmusical areas such as communication, physical coordination, teamwork, or even math.

If this article still hasn’t convinced you of the value of music for healing, consider the case of Dr. Michael J. Crawford and his colleagues, who in November 2006, again found that music therapy helped the outcomes of Schizophrenic patients.

His study showed conclusive evidence of the value of music in healing therapies. His November 2006 study included a total of 115 patients. Of these 115 patients, 81 of these were were subjected to various music therapies. Multiple methods of analysis demonstrated a trend towards improved symptom scores among those which were subjected to healing music therapy, especially in the area of reducing symptoms of schizophrenia. They further concluded that the effects as well as cost-effectiveness of music therapy for acute psychosis should be further investigated in further trials.

As you can see, there is a strong case for the value of music in everyday wellness as well as for your health and even to assist in the care of specific ailments. You can use music as a wellness method in your own home in a variety of ways, such as setting aside 15 minutes when you wake up in the morning and before bed at night to listen to relaxing music and calm your mind. You may also wish to listen to healing music on an mp3 player or CD player while you work during the day, if it is possible in your workplace to do so, or if you work from home. You can also play soothing, healing music for your pets or to even calm down and relax a baby!

Music can be used in such a large variety of ways for healing both our bodies and minds that you simply can’t go wrong by listening to this type of music! Even if your normal playlist includes rock, country, or even rap, you too can appreciate the benefits given by listening to relaxation music. There are such a large variety of styles, instruments, and cultural influences available in healing music that you can usually find something to suit everyone. So give music healing a try and start feeling the benefits today!

The alternate track to Health

If you suffer from an illness, the allopathic general physician is just the first stop-over in the treatment chain. Now diseases are treated, or at least certainly have the potential to be treated, in a much wider perspective than that of symptoms and medicines alone. Alternate therapies have come into play and they take into account the mental state and the energy realms of the patient. Alternate therapies expand their focus to take into account several other aspects of the patient’s mind and b

Being Active With Your Health

Being Active With Your Health:
Pathology and your Energy

You walk home from work and feel tired. After an eight hour day, your energy can’t let you do anything anymore. However, you also know that there are demands to be met as soon as you walk in the door. If you want to make sure that you can keep up with the activity, you might want to learn how to check your Qi, or energy. If there is a part of your body that is blocked, it can prevent you from getting what you want to done, or having the energy to be alert when you need to be. Starting by finding the flow of your energy, and looking at your pathology, may be able to help.

Pathological imbalances, in Chinese medicine, are known to be a result of your energy being disturbed. This means that your energy is moving too quickly or too slow in your body and in your organs. This is the foundation of Chinese medicine. Changing the flow of your Qi is what will help you to get back to the energy that you want to.

Pathology and Chinese medicine is divided into three major categories. These categories are ones that stop your Qi from flowing properly. Internal pathogens, the first category, are when your internal organs dysfunction. The second, external pathogens are when outside sources affect your body. The third type of pathology is categorized into trauma, where the damage comes from external or internal disturbances.

Within each of these different changes in flow by disturbance are specific target areas that can be focused on in order to move the body back to normal flow. For example, if you have suffered a trauma, your Qi will most likely change and become stagnated. This can cause pain in various places of your body. Your Qi, instead of moving upwards will move down. It will take a change in the flow of energy in order to change the trauma and pain.

By beginning to understand the relation of pathogens to energy in the body, you can begin to find alternatives to healing. The philosophy basis of Chinese medicine is directly linked to the idea of Qi and how one is able to stay healthy and with energy. If you want to focus your energy on meeting all of your activities, then following the alternatives with Chinese medicine can begin to change your flow in a different direction.

Twisting Back Into Health

Twisting Back Into Health:
Yoga as a Chinese Medicine

On the Western side of the world, Yoga is considered an exercise that helps with strength, cardiovascular and weight loss. However, in ancient Chinese medicine, Yoga was also used as a practice in order to cultivate health. If you are interested in Yoga, or have begun the practice, you will begin to recognize that the health related to Yoga also provides nourishment for a better balance towards health.

The idea of Chinese medicine is to create a balance of the flow of energy that is happening in one’s body. The incorporation of this medicine doesn’t just include the balance of the body. It also includes the relationships of the mind and the spirit that relate to the body. All are considered to be intertwined. When the energy flow of one area is off, it changes the energy flow of the entire system.

The basis of this idea in Chinese medicine is also the ideal behind Yoga. This form of exercise was used as a method to help with healing and balance in one’s life, and can be considered one of the ways to use Chinese medicine. The practice of Yoga, while it can help to treat ailments, is recognized more often as a way to prevent disease and imbalance. By practicing Yoga, one can keep their health on all levels.

The way that this is done through Yoga is through the opening of the various points in the body with the practice. Every Yoga move is directly linked to various chakras, or points in the body that help with energy flow. Yoga helps to open these chakras, and to help in keeping them open. By doing this, one is able to increase their energy and begin to stay in better health. Yoga is especially known for helping with problems such as insomnia, and in the functioning of internal organs.

If you want a natural alternative to healing, Yoga as a practice can help. This particular method is known to help increase energy as well as clear blocks that may be in your system. Over time, your energy will begin to increase and flow naturally, allowing you to stay in the best of health without the unnatural twists.

Selecting Music for Healing and Wellness

Selecting Music for Healing and Wellness

Choosing the correct, or most appropriate music which is conductive for alternative healing therapies – and for overall wellness – is of the utmost importance. Music has been used for healing, or as an aid to healing for thousands of years. The Bible tells us that David played his harp to cure King Saul’s depression. Egyptian records dating from over 2,600 years old point to music being used as cures for infertility and arthritis.

In fact, one of the most ancient techniques, now finding a revival in modern culture, is in ancient Greece where the Pythagoreans believed that music was a gift from the Gods, and reflected mathematical perfection. It was widely believed that diseases and afflictions, both mental and physical, were simply disorders that could be improved or even cured by the proper application of music.

When you do choose to use music for healing, it is thus extremely important that you select the most appropriate music for the particular problems you are treating. This isn’t nearly as simple as it may appear, however. Allow me to cite you an example of the complexities in the correct selection of music.

Let us say that you are depressed in your life and about to select music to make you feel better. Your first instinct is going to be to listen to music that is also depressing, or has a depressive effect. However we know from experience that this only serves to make the listener more depressed or melancholy. On the other hand, if you were to play happy or upbeat music, you may also find yourself more depressed as your brain compares your current situation with the music you are hearing. And few of us are in the mood to listen to enthusiastic music of any kind while we are feeling down.

Therefore you must find a way to move around this apparent “Catch 22″. One simply way of doing that is a progressive movement of mood from your current state to your desired state. So if you were in fact dealing with depression, you would then first listen to a recording that is the epitome of depression and sadness to you. Once listening to that, move up a step and listen next to another recording, this time of slightly lighter mood and tone. Keep improving the mood and base emotions of the music you are listening to while your mood falls in sync with the music.

Music that you use for healing should be geared towards this use. New Age Music, Classical Music, Meditation and Relaxation Music, music with nature sounds in the background, and other such compositions. You can also find music especially geared towards music healing, using modern versions of the Pythagorean music healing techniques, such as the music of Classical New Age artist Daniel Kobialka. The music should soothe and calm you, rejuvenate and refresh you, not cause excessive excitement or distractions.

The music you choose does not have to be boring to you either! The music you listen to should evoke emotion, and cause you to feel the music completely throughout your body. Respond to the music in whatever way is most natural for you. You may move your body with the music, use visualization techniques, sync your breathing with the music or any other method of expression.

While the critics of music healing state that there is no conclusive evidence that it works, science has proven the power of sounds again and again. For example, not only can sound affect emotions, it can also have a physical impact on our surroundings. Lithotripsy is the medical term for the removal of gallstones using sound where a special machine generates sound waves to shatter stones. You most likely have also seen in media the effect of an opera singer shattering a glass with the power of her voice alone. If music can be used to destroy, it can also be used to heal.

When using music in healing therapies, the word “harmony” is the most important goal to keep in mind. In both of the examples above of the impact of sound, we are speaking about “resonance”, which is – simply put – the occurrence of one object or force “getting in tune with” another object. All matter is made up of molecules, which all have their own vibrational frequency, or rate of movement. If you remember your basic science, you’ll note that molecules that vibrate at the highest speeds make up gases, molecules that vibrate moderately are liquids, and the slowest of course are solid matter. However all molecules are constantly attracting each other and in movement.

The idea of using music to heal is therefore the idea that we can project a harmonious sound at a person who is in “dis-harmony” (having an affliction or problem to be solved), and move them back into harmony, and thus heal the individual. It is a very realistic and feasible effect that continues to help and assist millions of people across the globe. Using music in healing should be considered a viable and useful alternative healing method.

New Age Buzz-words in Health, Healing and Wellness: What do they mean to you?

New Age Buzz-words in Health, Healing and Wellness: What do they mean to you?

Of all the popular “new age” search terms in the health and healing category, my personal favorite is holistic healing. This term, it seems, embodies all of the others, like spiritual healing, soul healing, healing meditation, chakra, energy healing, spiritual journey and metaphysics. Some of these terms are specific methodologies like Chakra and guided meditation, while others are just general expressions of adopting a way of thinking beyond the realm of materialism. The popularity of such search terms is a clear indication that hundreds of thousands of people are taking charge of their health and exploring possibilities beyond conventional medicine, which is primarily about eradicating disease through cutting, sewing, burning, radiation and toxic chemicals. Of course, there are many benefits and people cannot afford to turn their backs on treatment opportunities in the standard health care system, but there are many viable adjuncts and alternatives.

However, the emphasis here is that holistic healing focuses on you, the consumer taking charge of and responsibility for your health. You start with understanding that you are much more than a skin bag of cells, tissues and organs and that your goal is to be well; not just to be free of disease. Thus you come to understand that you are a person with a body, mind and spirit—all functioning as a single inseparable unit so that every consideration has its impact on the entire being. Therefore, our wellness depends on the thought, speech and action of ourselves and of everyone else who is involved in our lives.

In conclusion, the foundation for healthy living is in how you think, what you say and what you do. Every decision is simply an answer to the question, “Should I or shouldn’t I?” Wellness most often requires being able to put off the desire for instant gratification and put forth effort to maintain self discipline. Healing requires searching for information about the existing or potential health problem and leaving all options open when discussing recommended solutions which must always include some life-style adjustments. Thus true holistic healing is dropping the notion that “doctor knows best” and taking responsibility for yourself by learning, evaluating and deciding.

Moshe Sharon has been a registered nurse for 31 years with a graduate degree and specialty in public health. He has spent most his career in search of ways to achieve true healing for those who are not yet well. He has studied and practiced holistic health care for two decades, always believing in the inseparability of the mind, body and spirit. This book is the culmination of an eight-year long study of Kabalistic and Hassidic teachings in order to unlock the secrets of healing and wellness in a modern world.

Seeking Wellness of Holistic

Seeking Wellness of Holistic

Seeking Wellness of Holistic Healing

With the approaching changes in our Medical care System, the time must be now to take a real good look at prevention and conservative care. Do you expect to depend on our government for your wellness?

There are a great many holistic approaches to end and treat disease which have a n excellent history for centuries. I am entertained (and angered) over the enormous pharmaceutical companies and medical profession stating there isn’t any ‘proof’ holistic measures works or ‘there is no study’. What is the reason that you find so many medical doctors becoming holistic recently? Jumping on the bandwagon. Their attitude is sick care, not health care. I think of it as the hypocrite oath, versus the Hippocratic Oath. Hippocrates taught his students that your food will be your cure. Many nutrients, herbs and modalities have been about for centuries with proven success. How scientific is an NSAID that kills 16,500 individuals every year, according to the New England Journal of Medicine. Was it proven and effective? I often quote Thomas Edison, who was a real visionary, he said ‘The Doctor of the future will give no medicine, instead will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in correct diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease’.

Conservative care just makes good sense. It should be the 1st line of offense and defense in regards to health care. The variety of holistic modalities that are benefiting people for eons are acupuncture, nutrition, chiropractic, massage, ayurvedic (traditional Indian medication), herbalology, solely to name a few.

When you’re under stress or you do not eat correctly, which is common in today’s society of unbalanced foods and chemicals. Getting and staying healthy needs effort, however the result is incredible. Eating properly assists in keeping your immune system able to fight off disease. Prevention is the key. I realize you can’t eat well all the time and you can’t avoid stress. When you should fall ill or feel bad, try to avoid reaching for a bottle of drugs. All drugs are foreign substances to the body. They do have side effects, sometimes on the liver. This is your body’s way of getting rid of the toxins and poisons we put into it. Instead, listen to your body. If it gives you discomfort, it’s telling you to stop doing that activity, listen to it. The second thing to do is rest or slow down, so you’ll follow more seriously to what your body’s trying to tell you. Eliminate the poisons from drinking and smoking.
Only as a final resort should you depend on drugs. Use surgery as a final resort also. Yet some doctors recommend this as their first approach. The United States spends well over 2.4 trillion dollars on healthcare per year. It ranks 37th, according to the World Health Organization, compared to other countries in quality of care.

Exercise, eat clean, and have a positive social network. Get a good amount of restful sleep. Eat perfect nutrients ideally with whole foods in their original form. Get chiropractic to support the musculoskeletal system and nervous system. The time is now to start taking control of your own health. These will be necessary to your survival and happiness as you go through the aging process. We can slow growing older and live a good quality life if we make time to take the important steps to insure that the quality of life is there.

Natural healing colleges offer prospective students a wide array of holistic and complementary medicine courses including diploma/certificate programs in holistic therapy, herbalism, massage therapy, iridology, natural health, hypnotherapy, and aromatherapy, among several others.

If you are drawn to essential oils and herbs, aromatherapy and spa programs at natural healing colleges will teach you about anatomy and physiology, the history of aromatherapy, essential oils, botany, chemistry, blending, case studies and related subject matter.

In bodywork programs at natural healing colleges, students learn about anatomy and physiology; and will gain hands-on experience in a variety of massage techniques and modalities including but not limited to kinesiology (muscle testing), deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, chair massage, hot stone massage, sports massage, and more. Natural healing colleges that provide massage programs often require a minimum of 300 hours training, and may entail over 1,000 training hours. In addition, massage therapy courses at natural healing colleges may sometimes integrate classes in CPR and first aid, as well as training in hydrotherapy.

Natural healing colleges extending day spa practitioner programs provide cutting-edge skills and techniques in how to administer facials, manicures and pedicures, body wraps and scrubs; how to give a chair massage, provide aromatherapy, balance energy systems, administer a hot stone massage, Swedish massage and reflexology therapy; among other associated studies. Natural healing colleges that provide courses like this typically require a fair amount of training hours; sometimes over 700 clinical hours.

A number of natural healing colleges also offer intuitive practitioner programs where candidates are taught about emotional clearing, meditation techniques, kinesiology, energy balancing, and Reiki. As a metaphysical professional, intuitive practitioners can help individuals to remove past traumas, promote self-healing abilities and learn how to achieve overall wellness.
